Art Done! Editing Progresses - October 10th, 2025 Update
6 months ago – Fri, Oct 10, 2025 at 11:09:56 AM

Our copy editor has finished first pass on the entire book! Karl and I have reviewed most of it, and a chunk has even gone to Ryan to make the corrections in the laid out pages. Progress!

There's also been an ongoing conversation with our publisher/production house. Nick has been working with them to prep our physical products. So that we can get things going quickly once the tariffs are in a favorable state.

The bigger news, imo, is our artists have finished all the art for the main book! It's been a long road, but we're very happy with the results. You've seen some of it, but it's staggering how much illustration we're stuffing into those pages.

And finally, here are two more of the mini-fig prototypes by Artist Davi Cao, including our high priestess V'ladra. Don't turn your back on her.

Copy Edit Continues...- Sept 11th, 2025 update
7 months ago – Fri, Sep 12, 2025 at 02:55:02 PM

... and continues. As mentioned in an earlier update, our copy editor is a pro and she's not holding back. She's finished the non-Web sections (player info, lore, etc.) and the first Web, which all together is about 40% of the book. This weekend Karl and I are going to finish our reviews of those comments/corrections and then Ryan will make the changes to layout. (See? There's actual organization and process to our madness, but it is still going slower than we'd like.)

I know the real question is "when will we get the PDF?" Well, we've proven we're not great at estimating the pace of this process, but our best guess at this point is: About 10 to 12 weeks. Not the answer we want to give, but we're not sitting idle. The copy editor is working fast, but, as said above, more time is needed to review those changes, and to make them in the layout.

To continue the "things we don't have good answers for" train: We still have no definite answer for the tariff situation. There's a chance the book itself could be exempt, but no one is able to get us a firm answer just yet, and there are all the other physical items (dice, GM screen, etc.) that are affected. We are at the mercy of global economic politics, unfortunately.

More Art!

For some fun stuff: Below is a snippet of the art for the GM Screen. This pic is a close up of a part of the left third of the entire image. The whole thing is a massive and amazing spread!

Plus, a peek at prototypes for four more sculpts from Artist Davi Cao. The work keeps coming in and he's doing right by our drow champions.

Editing Ain't Easy - August 8th, 2025 update
8 months ago – Fri, Aug 08, 2025 at 03:32:18 PM

Hello to all you dark elf devotees.

Our copy editor is hard at work. And, to be fair, we've made her work hard (maybe our grammar and terminology wasn't as consistent as we thought...). She's a pro and laid out for us the professional's proper process. Which may include a timeline that is beyond what we initially thought. So, the PDF will likely not be ready in August.

The apologies are here for you all, though it is in service to the book being as close to perfect as we can get it. We'll be using the front chapters as a guideline for the time it will take, so once that's done we'll talk new dates.

Until then... a few more prototypes of the STL sculpts!

STLs! - July 11th, 2025 Update
9 months ago – Fri, Jul 11, 2025 at 10:04:51 AM

A short update today, in part due to lack of news, but also because pictures speak louder than words (see below!).

We are (as always) monitoring the tariff situation. The numbers are still too high, but changes could be coming.

In the meantime...

Sweet STLs!

Remember those STLs that were part of our stretch goals? Check these out! Artist Davi Cao has really done a fantastic job bringing these Umbral drow champions to life. We'll reveal the next four in a future update:

A Blank Box, Full of Promise - June 20th, 2025 Update
9 months ago – Sat, Jun 21, 2025 at 09:13:40 AM

PDF Progress... and one small problem

The layout is beautiful, the edits are rolling in, and the art is... almost... 100% done. Almost.

Which is to say, sending out the PDF of the book will slip into August. Our apologies for this, but we need all the art in place and up to quality. This slip should only be a matter of two weeks, but I'll let you know if that changes.

As a gesture of "no really, this thing is nearly done" we can reveal that the book will be at least 304 pages long! (I.e., we know that because the main layout is done, even if the art pieces aren't all ready for placement). It could even hit 320 depending on the index and all the front matter/legal stuff... and if we forgot something.

What a beast! The Widow's Web will be a tome of sinister fun that will look majestic on your shelves!

Blank Box, Full Heart

Continuing the theme of "yes, this book will happen," we have taken further steps to be prepped and ready when production of the physical products can begin. While tariffs are still a blocker and a worry, Nick has been working hand in hand with our printer about what we'll need.

They have sent us a blank sample set of our All-In Bundle. In other words, blanks versions of the book, box, maps, standees, standee holders, GM screen, cards, stickers, dice, and dice bag!

Check out the image below. It was WAY bigger than I imagined it was going to be. There are SO many maps. And that box is like 50% larger than Karl's noggin.

These are (obviously) generic blanks, but they're based on the specs for all our materials to show the sizing and how they'd all fit into the box itself. So the pieces you see here are the correct number and size to simulate the All-In Bundle.

Now we just need to see some sanity in the trade economy and we can make these pretty...
